The Truth About Building Trevit: My Journey Through Challenges and Inspiration

Published: Tuesday, July 15, 2025

It’s 5 a.m., and I can’t sleep. Not because I’m worried about sales or algorithms, but because of something that hit me harder than I expected. We got called a scam. Not in a casual way like a joke or a misunderstanding, but in a way that made me stop and wonder if all the work means anything.

I want to be honest with you about what that feels like. Because behind every product, every brand, every website, there’s a person. A real person with real dreams, real struggles, and real hope.

I’m just one person.

I’m a founder trying to build something from nothing.

And every day, I fight to prove that what I’ve started is real, honest, and built with care.

Where It All Began

I still remember the day that sparked it all.

It was a winter day in Newfoundland, Canada, January 2020. My mom had just come home from work, wrapped in her cozy layers. I took a quiet photo of her. Just a simple moment that she doesn’t even know I captured.

Shortly after, a gift arrived from the United States. An Apple Watch. Something she admired but thought we’d never have.

For my mom, a doctor who’s spent almost two decades caring for others, that watch was more than just tech. It was a reminder to care for herself. To track her health, her steps, her sleep.

Watching her find confidence and motivation in that moment planted a seed in me.

Why should wellness tech be something only people with $$$$ can have?

Why can’t there be something real, accessible, and built for everyone?

And so, Trevit was born.

The Reality of Building Small

Since then, it’s been a lonely road.

No big investors. No fancy office. No viral hype. Bootstrapping from my personal account.

Just me, learning every day, pushing through setbacks, and trying to build a brand that people can trust.

But trust is hard to come by when you’re small.

When you don’t have hundreds of reviews, millions of followers, or a household name.

Because the internet is quick to doubt.

Quick to judge.

And sometimes, cruel.

Called a Scam When You’re Just Getting Started

Recently, we got called a scam on social media when hosting a giveaway for two Trevit smartwatches, and after posting a video showing what our order packing process is like.

Someone who didn’t see the months of work, the thousands of dollars spent on starting up, our website, advertisement, sleepless nights, hiring contractors, boxes, manuals, and branding.

All they saw was a name that looked similar to something else, or the fact that we don't have many reviews posted on social media like bigger brands, or our watch that looked like the Apple Watch, and they assumed the worst.

That sting? It’s real.

But so is my response.

I showed everything. Because I believe in what I’ve built.

Why I’m Sharing This

I’m sharing this not because I want sympathy.

But because I want to remind everyone small businesses start somewhere. Not all of us have thousands of dollars to create massive campaigns you see everywhere.

And I want to remind anyone who’s trying something small and real that they are not alone.

That it’s okay to be vulnerable.

That it’s okay to be scared.

And most importantly, that it’s okay to keep going.

What’s Next for Trevit

We're still going.

It’s just the beginning.

I’m still here, still building, still dreaming.

And I hope you’ll be part of this journey, whether you’re buying a watch or just cheering on someone who dared to start.

Thank you for believing in real.

Thank you for believing in Trevit.

With hope,
Chérie
